Research Description

Personal: I am currently “semi-retired”. I considered retiring completely, but the excitement of teaching the new biology courses was just too much and so I continue to work part-time here at Mines. In my spare time I enjoy hiking Colorado's mountains with my wife Magda. Magda is the first woman from Spain to reach the summit of an 8,000 meter peak (Cho Oyu—26,905 ft) and keeping up with her on the fourteeners has provided years of “relaxation”.

Humanitarian: In 1999 Magda and I co-founded Namlo International, a non-profit organization that builds schools in developing countries. There are currently over 700 children attending Namlo schools in Nepal and Nicaragua. Visit us on the web at www.namlo.org.
