Teaching Assistant Professor
My research in both academic and industrial settings has focused on diverse topics such as DNA replication, cell cycle control, as well as the engineering of microbes for the production of 3-hydroxypropionic acid.
I currently teach the introductory course of studio biology (BIO 110), which is an active-learning environment that promotes independence and critical thinking while emphasizing experimental design, analysis and communication. My instruction focuses on helping students appreciate how biological knowledge can be applied to solve engineering problems in new and innovative ways.
My current interests include the continual development of studio biology and the development of an upper-division molecular biology class for chemical engineers. I am also working on the development of an International Genetically Engineered Machine (IGEM) team that focuses on developing machines using synthetic biology.
