Bruno Klein

Chemical and Biological Engineering Adjunct Faculty

Nick Thornburg

Dr. Bruno Klein is a Senior Research Engineer in the Economic, Sustainability, and Market Analysis group at the National Laboratory of the Rockies and an Adjunct Faculty member in the Colorado School of Mines Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He focuses on techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) of biomass conversion pathways to biofuels and bioproducts. Bruno leads the analysis efforts in several projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, such as the Bioprocessing Separations consortium, the Agile BioFoundry consortium, and the Center for Bioenergy Innovation. Prior to joining NLR in 2019, he worked for six years at a Brazilian national laboratory with the assessment of biomass conversion through various technologies. His research interests span conceptual process design, process integration, and simulation; sustainability assessment (TEA, LCA, and social assessment); biochemical conversion process pathways; algal biomass production and conversion; and business models for the bioeconomy.
